This former pig farm site at Woodington, West Wellow will become a new country park (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace) with wildflower meadows, grassland and woodland planned to enhance the natural environment.
The site will promote nature recovery and wildlife benefits arising from the creation of new habitats as well as the improvement of existing hedgerow and scrub habitats.
In addition it will mitigate nutrient and sediment pollution in local watercourses, namely the River Blackwater, which ultimately helps to protect designated sites in the Solent.
The site is currently a work in progress and not yet open to the public, although there is a public footpath at the northern end of the site which remains open as usual.
Seeding of the wildflower meadow is taking place this autumn.
