Coming Scheme Summary

As part of a strategic initiative, the Solent Mitigation Partnership is working to deliver upgrades to private septic tanks (domestic sewerage systems) across Hampshire starting in Bishop Sutton area. These upgrades will convert existing septic tanks into more advanced package treatment plants (PTPs), significantly improving the removal of nutrients from wastewater before it enters sensitive water environments.

The development of the scheme was started in May 2026, and is designed to generate nutrient credits that developers in areas like Ropley and Ropley Dean can purchase to support housing and projects.

By delivering targeted improvements to domestic sewage infrastructure, it will help unlock stalled development, support local housing delivery, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations- all while protecting the Solent’s unique and sensitive natural environment.
