Developer Engagement Survey

Why Nutrient Mitigation

The Solent is internationally important for its wildlife, so nutrients in the water must be carefully managed to protect plants, habitats, birds and other animals. Developers are required to mitigate against any increase in nutrient levels caused by new homes.

Our mitigation schemes protect the Solent while allowing urgently needed new homes to be built.

Our Schemes

Current Scheme: Land at Stubbington

A former farmland site in Stubbington is now a nature recovery area, reducing nutrient runoff into the Solent. The project has generated over 400 verified nutrient credits to support sustainable development in the region.

Upcoming Scheme: Winchester Upgrades

A new scheme in Winchester will reduce nutrient pollution in the River Itchen by upgrading council-owned septic tanks. This will generate verified nutrient credits, helping unlock housing development while protecting the area’s sensitive ecosystems.
