The Solent Mitigation Partnership (SMP) is delighted to welcome Jas Berrill to the team as its new Senior Project Officer.
Jas joins SMP from AtkinsRéalis, where she spent more than four years working as an Environmental Consultant within the company’s Water Management Consultancy team. Her work focused on natural capital and environmental economics, helping clients understand the environmental and business value of natural assets and the role they play in building resilience to challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and water scarcity.
The SMP team has expanded considerably in recent years, reflecting the growing demand for its work across the Solent region. Since its establishment in 2021 as a single-person team, SMP has now grown to six dedicated staff, delivering innovative mitigation projects and working closely with local planning authorities to support sustainable development and environmental recovery.
Jas is already familiar with the Solent area through previous work with the Environment Agency’s Solent and South Downs team. She is looking forward to using her environmental expertise to support SMP’s nutrient neutrality programme and wider sustainability objectives.
Commenting on her appointment, Jas said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Solent Mitigation Partnership. The Partnership’s work to deliver nutrient neutrality while supporting sustainable growth closely aligns with my background, and I’m looking forward to working with partners across the region to help protect the Solent’s internationally important environment.”
The Solent Mitigation Partnership is a collaborative initiative formed by 16 local authorities working together to deliver high-quality environmental mitigation. The Partnership was established to address nutrient pollution in the Solent and its rivers, helping to protect internationally important habitats while unlocking much-needed new housing.
Through a strategic, partnership-led approach, the SMP develops projects that reduce nutrient impacts, generate mitigation credits, and reinvest funding into further environmental schemes, supporting both sustainable growth and long-term ecological recovery.
